Blooms From The Heart – Asks For Help From Event Holders To Turn Old Vases Into Recycled Treasurers

Mary Ryan Barthel, Founder & President of Blooms From The Heart is asking for your help.

She wants you to clean out your shelves, dust out old vases and donate (and recycle!) them for a good cause. Blooms from the Heart sends a message of caring and compassion to those in need by recycling flowers from events, venues and businesses and delivering the re-purposed arrangements to San Diego area hospitals, senior homes, hospice centers and other facilities where they can be enjoyed.

Plan It Green Attends Open House Aboard Hornblower’s Unique Hybrid Yacht

Hornblower Cruises and Events has brought it first-of-a-kind vessel into San Diego for a visit. This 64-foot-long boat is based in San Francisco where it shuttles passengers to and from Alcatraz Island.

Called, the “Hornblower Hybrid” this ship uses a combination of solar panels, wind turbines and fuel-efficient diesel engines provide power to operate the vessel. Fuel consumption is less than one-third of a traditional boat its size.

It will be in San Diego through mid-January, and is docked at the Grape Street Pier. It is available for private charter and can carry 149 passengers.

Plan It Green Supports “Bright Green Future”

Plan It Green is part of a community-wide set of volunteers helping San Diego EarthWorks with its newest event called “Bright Green Future: Global Challenges, San Diego Solutions ”

This is a two-day conference which will be held at the UCSD Price Center on October 23rd and 24th. The event brings together experts on San Diego’s regional energy, natural resources, transportation, green business, job training, sustainable living and building, and other important green ideas.

Kaiser Permanente achieves 99% waste diversion from landfill!

When Plan It Green got the call to assist San Diego’s Kaiser Permanente on their August premiere of a “Farm Fresh Food Fair”, we immediately jumped into action! Our plan of action was to ask the right questions directed towards catering, décor and event waste solutions. Our mission was to celebrate the grand opening of Kaiser’s newest clinic in Rancho Bernardo. They requested we combine great healthy food and an educational perspective on healthy living and lifestyle. The guests included many patients of the new clinic as well as medical, administrative staff and the local public.

Slow Foods Event June 28th

Slow Foods is hosting Stagecoach Days, a food tasting event to support Slow Food Urban San Diego and Old Town Historic State Park.

More than twenty local restaurants, artisan food makers, breweries and wineries will be on hand,
sampling generous tastes of their creative cuisine that honors the early food traditions of San Diego and celebrates the bounty from local farms, fishermen and ranchers.

Among the respected restaurants scheduled to participate are 1500 Ocean at the Del, Cafe Chloe, Starlite, Romesco and many more. Participating local breweries include the award-winning AleSmith, Stone and Lost Abbey.

Hacienda de las Rosas and Salerno wineries will be participating as well. Slow Food Urban San Diego is a grassroots, volunteer-driven chapter of national, non-profit organization Slow Food USA and its parent organization Slow Food International. Our group highlights chefs, restaurants and craft food artisans who support local farms and practice business sustainably with monthly Metro Mixer events that showcase local restaurants and attract hundreds of members and friends.

Our Stagecoach Days fundraiser on June 28 will support our outreach programs including educational classes, local garden projects and Slow Food in Schools, our efforts to bring healthy, local food to the San Diego school system.

Directions to the event: The Plaza of Old Town State Park is located at 2750 San Diego Avenue between Mason and Wallace. Free parking can be found in the Old Town lots; there is also street parking.
