Green Event News From The Community

Kaiser Permanente achieves 99% waste diversion from landfill!

When Plan It Green got the call to assist San Diego’s Kaiser Permanente on their August premiere of a “Farm Fresh Food Fair”, we immediately jumped into action! Our plan of action was to ask the right questions directed towards catering, décor and event waste solutions. Our mission was to celebrate the grand opening of Kaiser’s newest clinic in Rancho Bernardo. They requested we combine great healthy food and an educational perspective on healthy living and lifestyle. The guests included many patients of the new clinic as well as medical, administrative staff and the local public.

Slow Foods Event June 28th

Slow Foods is hosting Stagecoach Days, a food tasting event to support Slow Food Urban San Diego and Old Town Historic State Park.

More than twenty local restaurants, artisan food makers, breweries and wineries will be on hand,
sampling generous tastes of their creative cuisine that honors the early food traditions of San Diego and celebrates the bounty from local farms, fishermen and ranchers.

Among the respected restaurants scheduled to participate are 1500 Ocean at the Del, Cafe Chloe, Starlite, Romesco and many more. Participating local breweries include the award-winning AleSmith, Stone and Lost Abbey.

Hacienda de las Rosas and Salerno wineries will be participating as well. Slow Food Urban San Diego is a grassroots, volunteer-driven chapter of national, non-profit organization Slow Food USA and its parent organization Slow Food International. Our group highlights chefs, restaurants and craft food artisans who support local farms and practice business sustainably with monthly Metro Mixer events that showcase local restaurants and attract hundreds of members and friends.

Our Stagecoach Days fundraiser on June 28 will support our outreach programs including educational classes, local garden projects and Slow Food in Schools, our efforts to bring healthy, local food to the San Diego school system.

Tickets for this tasting event are just $45 and can be purchased here: brownpapertickets.com

Directions to the event: The Plaza of Old Town State Park is located at 2750 San Diego Avenue between Mason and Wallace. Free parking can be found in the Old Town lots; there is also street parking.

A Call To Action from the Surfrider Foundation…

We just had to write about this growing concern. Please visit the Surfrider Foundation’s website for additional information regarding this topic and other environmental awareness.

Rise Above Plastics!

Rise Above Plastics (RAP) is a starting point for raising awareness of the problems that plastic brings to our oceans. Every bit of plastic that was ever produced still exists today, and much of it ends up in the ocean – as evidenced by the infamous flotilla in the North Central Pacific Gyre. RAP endeavors to spur you to action – at home, at the store, at city hall. Each of us depends on plastic in some form every day, but much of it is a convenience choice, a decision that can easily be swayed toward the proper environmental path, requiring no more effort on your part.
